uzunashvili's mukuzani cellar
Kakheti
Uzunashvili Mukuzani Cellar is a historic family winery from Kakheti (Mukuzani village) dedicated to crafting premium traditional Qvevri wines. The winery is known for preserving centuries-old winemaking traditions and highlighting the unique characteristics of the Mukuzani terroir.
Story
The family's winemaking tradition dates back to 1829, when the Uzunashvili ancestors served as master winemakers on the estate of Prince Alexander Chavchavadze. In the early 20th century, Mikha Uzunashvili was awarded an Imperial Medal by Tsar Nicholas II for "noble and distinguished winemaking." Despite losing their titles and duties during the Soviet era, the family preserved their craft across generations. Today, the cellar is led by 11th-generation winemaker Vazha Uzunashvili, who brings over 35 years of industry experience and education from Ukraine and France. Vineyards are cultivated and harvested entirely by hand, and the estate features traditional Qvevri cellars alongside a dedicated tasting room for visitors.
